Prestressed Concrete II - Structural Design

Understanding how precast prestressed concrete is used to create structures is important in todayÆs construction, engineering and architectural market. In this two hour online course, functional and structural design considerations will be discussed using a precast prestressed concrete building application, a parking garage. The elements of precast-prestressed concrete will be introduced and it will be explained how they are used to construct a parking garage. This course includes a multiple choice quiz at the end.

Course I, Prestressed Concrete, An Introduction is a recommended prerequisite to this course.

At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify and understand the structural design concepts of loads, shear walls, diaphragm action and expansion joints.
  • Identify and understand precast products used and how they are connected in the structure.
  • Identify and understand building considerations specific to parking garage design including traffic movement, clearance and space size, and ADA accessibility guidelines.
