In this two hour online course, functional and structural design considerations will be discussed using a precast prestressed concrete building application, a parking garage. The elements of precast-prestressed concrete will be introduced and it will be explained how they are used to construct a parking garage. This course includes a multiple choice quiz at the end.

At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify and understand the structural design concepts of loads, shear walls, diaphragm action and expansion joints.
  • Identify and understand precast products used and how they are connected in the structure.
  • Identify and understand building considerations specific to parking garage design including traffic movement, clearance and space size, and ADA accessibility guidelines.
